Kidneys and Urinary System

The kidneys, bladder, urethra and genitals have overlapping functions in the male and is often referred to as the urogenital system. The kidneys and bladder transport only urine, but the urethra within the penis transports both urine and semen with sperm needed for reproduction. In the female, the urinary system is physically separate from the reproductive organs. In the male, it helps the body dispose of waste and excess fluid. Conditions affecting these systems often involve the individual organs, often from cancer or infection.
